About

What's Their Story? is a community-based social history project, supporting people to share their memories, as well at to delve into the past. It explores the 160-year history of 18 cottages and a school, in Dolvin Road, Tavistock. Our historic market town is located on the fringe of Dartmoor in West Devon.

Get involved

Discover some of the ways you can get involved with What's Their Story? If you lived, worked, or went to school on the street, we'd love to hear your memories. You can write these down and send them to us, or get in touch and we'll connect you with a volunteer who'll come and chat and record and write up what you have to say. If you are interested in supporting us to record and archive our local history records, we'd welcome the volunteer time you can spare. We're seeking people who'd like to record and write up local people's memories. Since this may involve home visits, we'll support you through the DBS check required. If you enjoy detective-work, you might like to help us dig through births, marriages and deaths, census records, old newspaper cuttings, history books and a trove of other resources, to discover more about the lives lived on Dolvin Road.

Our Community

What's Their Story? is part of Life Stories, a volunteer-run project hosted by charity Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS). TASS supports the independence, inclusion and wellbeing of older people in Tavistock and the surrounding area, as well as help people with disabilities to access local activities and amenities
